If you’ve ever been bored, then you know it’s one of the most dreadful feelings ever! Just like your cat, they can also use some fun cat activities and fun toys for enrichment – and enjoyment. But if you think fun cat activities require you to shell out a fortune, know that you don’t!
Here are a few fun cat activities for better bonding with your furry best friend:
3 Fun Cat Activities
- Hide and Seek
If there’s one cat behavior that most people know, it’s cats like sneaking and being stealthy. Cats evolved to be like that. It’s how their ancestors hunt for prey in the wilderness. Despite being a modern-day house cat, our mousers still have this trait ingrained in them.
If you want your kitty to utilize their hunting behavior – but in a fun way – you can play Hide and Seek with them. Most of the time, they instantly just know how to play it – they somehow automatically understand how the game Hide and Seek works – talk about instincts!
- Play tag
Cats need exercise. However, lots of them don’t like going for a walk – or tied up on a leash. But that doesn’t mean there’s no way for them to be active. If you want your cat to use their muscular and flexible legs, you can play tag with them, too!
As long as you understand your cat’s body language, and you’re certain that they aren’t scared when you’re playfully chasing them, you can playfully chase them – and have them chase you in return. You’d be surprised how fast they can go!
- Groom your cat
Some cats are more laid back than others. If your cat isn’t the type to find physical exertion interesting, that doesn’t mean there aren’t other ways for you to bond with them! You can also groom your cat if they prefer it.
If you have a brush that’s designed to groom cat fur, you can gently help your cat get rid of their loose fur and dead skin. Not only will your cat be grateful for it, but you’ll also keep your cat’s fur shiny and sleek!
Easy DIY Cat Toys
- A ribbon, yarn, or string
Most people think that cats are complex creatures – but sometimes, they can find entertainment in the simplest of things: ribbons and strings! A lot of cats like playing with strings because the movement of these items mimics how animals like snakes move!
If you know how to knit, you can also make a toy for your cat to play with. You can also custom them a pillow or sweater to keep them comfy and cozy.
- Puzzle box
The whole feline species are intelligent animals – that’s why they also need mental stimulation to enrich their bright little minds! If you want to exercise their brain, you can grab a plastic container or cardboard box and place a few toys inside them – such as toy balls with different textures; if available, you can also get the ones with bells.
If you think there’s enough space for the balls to roll inside the container, you can then cut a couple of holes on top – and close the container’s lid. Your cat can then try to touch and grab the toys from the holes that you cut out.
- A feline’s favorite: a cardboard box!
If a puzzle box is too complicated for you to make, you can simply omit the whole activity and stick to the basics – a plain cardboard box! This is perhaps the cheapest – yet most entertaining – activity for your cat!
Most cats like to burrow inside the box as it gives them a sense of comfort. But sometimes, they also like to surprise whoever’s passing by near the box! (Just between us cat owners: pretend you’re actually surprised when they do this!)
The Bottom Line
Fun cat activities need not be costly! Not only do your cats deserve to have fun activities for them to enjoy, but you also deserve to be appreciated for the efforts you exert in ensuring your cat is happy – without having to spend a lot of money!
