Besides our very own fluffy felines, we also have the internet to thank for our daily dose of cats. But the internet is the internet — and the users will find ways to make cat videos cute, creative, and catchy! Because even in the digital world, cats have also taken over! And we’re not complaining!
Here are 4 funny cat videos with music to go along with the innate feline cuteness.
4 Cat Videos with Music That Took Over the Web
- Nyan Cat
Perhaps one of the earliest viral cat videos is the Nyan Cat. It may have been a fictional cat, but Nyan Cat sure spread happiness — and rainbows — among those who viewed the viral video! Nyan Cat was first uploaded in 2011 during the golden age of memes. It’s a looped music video of an animated cat flying through the sky while wearing a Pop-Tart for a collar. And the background music is a Japanese song that’s hilariously called “Nyanyanyanyanyanyanya!”.
Nobody knows exactly how or why a once-simple drawing by a Texan man (named Christian Torres) became an animated clip, looped music video, and internet sensation — but many can agree that Nyan Cat is still one of the original funny cats with music that graced the internet! Nyan Cat was even the 5th most-viewed YouTube video of 2011!
- Keyboard Cat
Another classic cat video with music is Keyboard Cat — and this catchy and comedic cat video predates Nyan Cat. However, unlike the latter, Keyboard Cat was very much a real cat! The ginger tabby who “played” the keyboard was named Fatso. Even though it’s pretty evident that it was Fatso’s human, Charlie Schmidt, who was manipulating the keyboard, it’s still Fatso’s laid-back demeanor while playing the keyboard that got viewers’ attention — add the fact that she was wearing blue pajamas!
The Keyboard Cat music video is far from the high-quality videos we see today. That’s because the original clip was originally recorded via a VHS way back in 1984! Keyboard Cat is not only a testament to how amazing cat videos will be preserved on the internet. But it’s also a reminder that the best music that will get stuck on people’s heads can sometimes be in the form of a few catchy notes — and not all videos need to be uploaded in 4K!
- Best Kittycat Song (feat. Grumpy Cat)
One cat video that highlights how cats can be simple — yet complex — at the same time is the Best Kittycat Song. There isn’t much context to the music and the video other than the undeniably funny lyrics with pictures of cats — and what they like — to go along with it. One excerpt from the song’s lyrics is “Cats like lasers / Cats like running / Cats like birds / Cats like hiding.” However, just when you thought it was just about a cat’s favorite hobbies, it then shifts the attention to Grumpy Cat (yet another previously viral meme).
As soon as the Best Kittycat Song focuses on Grumpy Cat as the subject, the lyrics then take quite a dark turn. As the other half of the song is about — well — not-so-nice things that Grumpy Cat supposedly likes. It’s worth saying, however, that the contents of the lyrics are obviously meant as a joke. And under no circumstance should it be taken seriously — the songwriters intended to showcase quintessential villainous incidents that transpired; Grumpy Cat (April 4, 2012 – May 14, 2019) was very much a good gal!
- The Kiffness X Alugalug Cat 2.0 (Please Go Away)
By default, cats are already hilarious on their own. But just as the felines already suspect it, we do tend to glorify and worship them by adding music to their already-perfect videos! Take South African musician, The Kiffness, for instance — he specializes in making electronic music with animals! What he does is he “remixes” viral animal videos and adds perfectly timed and melodic beats to them.
In one video, “The Kiffness X Alugalug Cat 2.0 (Please Go Away),” he added beats and used a variety of musical instruments to add flare to the video of a “talking cat” — which is a separate TikTok video of a kitty continuously meowing. The Kiffness’ YouTube upload of the remix amassed over 19 million views. And one of the topmost comments of the video that was posted says, “I’m pretty sure this is exactly what the internet was invented for.” — and I don’t think any of us cat parents can argue with that!
Poetic and Paw-some!
Cats rule the internet — and we won’t revolt against that! To cat owners, many of these funny cat videos with music may just be comic relief, but it also shows that no matter how dorky or “derpy” our cats may be, many others also have odd yet adored feline companions!
